New Year’s Resolutions for Seniors

New Year’s resolutions for 2018!

The New Year is a perfect opportunity to make changes and set goals.  Do you want to improve your health?  Spend more time with your loved ones?  Give back to the community?  Then set New Year’s resolutions that center around these goals.  Here are some ideas to get you started.

Resolution #1: Exercise for 10 Minutes a Day

Getting enough physical activity is the key to graceful aging.  However, this doesn’t mean that all free time has to be dedicated to exercising.  Studies have shown that getting just 10 minutes of activity a day is a great way to jump-start your health journey and establish new, healthy habits.  Slowly increase the exercise time until you get the recommended 150 minutes of aerobic activity per week.

Resolution #2: Volunteer in Your Community

Retirees can put their extra free time to good use.  Try looking for different opportunities to give back to your local community.  Keep in mind, however, that volunteering doesn’t just benefit others.  Volunteering gives you a sense of accomplishment, perspective, and gratitude.

Resolution #3: Spend More Time with Your Grandchildren

While most grandparents can agree that the time they spend with their grandchildren is special, you shouldn’t only limit your visits to special events.  So, making an effort to stay connected with your grandkids on a regular basis will strengthen bonds and bring your whole family together.

Resolution #4: Review Your Medicare Coverage

These are just a few suggestions for your New Year’s resolutions for 2018.  Remember, the New Year means that it’s also a good time to review your Medicare coverage.  So, for assistance with your Medicare needs, contact us at SeniorChoices NW.  We have local agents in Beaverton, Canby, Clackamas, Eugene, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, McMinnville, Portland, Newberg, Salem, Tigard, Tualatin, and Wilsonville.
