How to Improve Your Memory

How to Improve Your MemoryMemory is something that may dwindle with age, but you can strengthen your memory with these memory boosters.

Has your spouse been driving you nuts by asking you the same questions over and over again? “Where are my keys? Have you seen my phone? What’s the name of our neighbor’s kid again?” These lapses in memory are normal and have to do more with the amount of information that’s being thrown out rather than any real cognitive decline. To keep your memory strong, try out these memory booster tips.

  1. Naps are good.
You took naps when you were small, and suddenly you were just expected to stay awake all day. What gives? Well, it’s society telling you that adults shouldn’t nap. Recent evidence suggests that you should take a nap at least once a day, no matter your age. Naps help your brain retain information because it’s one way in which it solves problems.
  2. Be creative with your time.
Having an artistic hobby is good. If you don’t have one already, picking up something you’ve always wanted to do is a good idea. People that had an artistic hobby in a Mayo Clinic study showed that they were 73 percent less likely to experience cognitive decline. Read, paint, sculpt, write–whatever keeps your brain active.
  3. Watch the grandchildren.
It’s been a long time since you’ve had to deal with babies–all of yours are all grown up! A study found that babysitting your grandchildren can have a positive effect on your memory. They may not be able to speak, but you’ll find that you still have a lot to learn.

Being healthy is the only way you’ll be able to improve your memory, and having a quality health insurance plan will certainly help if anything goes awry. Make sure that you have the health insurance that fits your needs! Contact SeniorChoices NW in Wilsonville, Oregon.
