Increasing awareness and prevention of Breast Cancer this month in Oregon.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this is the perfect opportunity to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to detect the disease in its early stages. Although there is no fail-safe plan to ensure you will never develop the disease, there are things you can do to minimize the risk.
Living a healthy lifestyle can go a long way in preventing breast cancer. Eating a well-balanced diet, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, minimizing alcohol consumption, avoiding smoking, performing self-breast exams, and getting recommended mammograms and exams, are all ways to reduce risks. Mammograms are suggested for women aged 40 and older, and for younger women who have a family history of breast cancer.
You can do your part for October’s Awareness Month by alerting others of the tips, scheduling your screening, and taking care of your health. If you are a senior with Medicare, make sure you know what screenings are covered with your plan by contacting Senior Choices NW, located in Wilsonville, Oregon, or attend one of our informational meetings in Oregon or Washington!
